Volkswagen’s Content Creator Pilot
As real-time technologies like Unity and Unreal began making their way into the automotive industry in 2019, Volkswagen was keen to explore whether these technologies could be used to automate content production for marketing images.
In a short span of 4 months, our Team not only created the first virtual city but also developed a frontend that could semi-automatically import CAD vehicles into a Unity Engine application. Within this application, the cars could be virtually photographed in both a white room setting and the virtual city. The virtual city featured a traffic system with cars populating the scene, adding to the realism.
The project faced several challenges, including ensuring the accurate and realistic representation of CAD models and developing an intuitive interface for seamless operation. Through innovative problem-solving and close collaboration with Volkswagen’s team, we successfully overcame all challenges.
The project was a success and demonstrated how this approach significantly could reduce the time and cost associated with traditional content production methods. It inspired agencies and post-production teams to develop similar solutions, showcasing the potential of real-time technologies in the automotive sector.
This groundbreaking work laid the foundation for automated content production in the automotive industry, enhancing efficiency and creativity, and setting a new standard for future projects.
